Situated by the Yangtze River and the Yellow Sea, Nantong in Jiangsu province has been seeking high-quality development by making full use of its abundant coastal resources, emerging as a strong driver of the province's growth. Over the past three years, the coastal area in Nantong has attracted over 102 projects valued at more than 1 billion yuan ($140 million) each. This year, construction of seven more 10 billion yuan projects is expected to commence in the area. Nantong has established China's largest liquefied natural gas island – Yangguang Island, the country's first wind power home port and Asia's largest offshore wind power farms. The expansive Yellow Sea provides Nantong with abundant resources, creating ample opportunities for the establishment of major industrial projects. Additionally, Nantong is at the forefront of new energy development, showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Along Rudong's 86-kilometer-long coastline and more than 1 million mu (66,666.67 hectares) of mud flat, there are offshore wind farms with an installed capacity of 4.83 million kilowatts and photovoltaic power plants totaling 600 megawatts. In 2023, the new energy power generation projects primarily focused on wind power in Rudong delivered 13.7 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the State Grid. As per statistical data, this quantity of electricity has the capacity to accommodate the power demand of about 6 million households for one year. In addition, Nantong is home to two 100,000-metric ton multi-purpose terminals and two 10,000-ton container terminals. In 2023, the throughput of bulk and general cargo in Nantong exceeded 2 million cubic meters.
