The power supply department in Nantong utilized fixed drone nests to complete a 19-day critical operation and maintenance task for the 500-kilovolt Taisheng and Taili transmission lines on April 25. The drone nests can automatically deploy drones to perform inspections by pre-setting patrol routes for power protection lines. Each channel inspection takes 15 minutes per round, while infrared temperature measurement for each tower is conducted every 20 minutes, with data transmitted in real time to the smart power protection command platform. The modular drone nest network consists of compact units, each smaller than one cubic meter, designed for flexible deployment near substations, critical transmission corridors, and high-risk construction zones. These nests can complete self-checks and launch drones within 45 seconds, autonomously handling takeoff, landing, battery charging, and data transmission. With a maximum flight time of 50 minutes and an effective operational radius of five kilometers, the system ensures the safe and stable operation of main transmission channels. Nantong's 500-kilovolt transmission network has exceeded 800 kilometers in total length in 2025. To date, 17 fixed drone nests have been established across the city, with plans to deploy over 50 additional nests.
